Verse InsteadVerse Instead is built to be private. There's no account to create, no ads and no tracking. This policy explains the little information the app does handle, and why.
What stays on your phone
Your likes, bookmarks, notes, reading progress, streaks, saved studies, reading plans, devotional history and settings are stored only on your device. We don't receive them. Deleting the app deletes them.
Verse studies
When you open a study that isn't already on your phone, the app sends our server which verse you asked for, the app's language and the kind of study (for example, “Original Language”). It doesn't send your name, contact details or any identifier for you. Our server, hosted by Cloudflare, generates the study with Anthropic's Claude AI model and keeps the finished study so it can be shown to anyone who asks for the same verse. We don't store who asked for it.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have Premium. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase details from Apple, such as the product, price and dates. We never see your payment details. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Photos
Reading plan and devotional cover photos come from Unsplash. When a photo loads, your device connects to Unsplash's servers, which can see your IP address, as with any website image. See Unsplash's privacy policy.
Reminders
Daily reminders and the free trial reminder are scheduled on your phone by iOS. Nothing is sent to us.
Support
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don't use analytics or tracking tools, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't sell or share personal information.
Children
Verse Instead is suitable for all ages and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your choices
You can turn off reminders in Settings, and delete everything the app stores by deleting the app. To ask about anything in this policy, email [email protected].
